Latest CNC to be shown in pecision machining

As well as showing its latest milling machines, CNC lathes and turning centres and workholding producs, Hardinge will demonstrate Heidenhain's iTNC 620 CNC in pecision machining action at EMO

Hardinge will be showing its latest CNC milling machines, CNC lathes and turning centres, CNC grinding machines and workholding products on three separate stands at the EMP 2007 exhibition in Hannover, Germany. David Andrew, Hardinge's UK sales and marketing director said that the company would 'Demonstrate once again the innovation, technical excellence and comprehensive product range available from Hardinge'.
Bridgeport milling technology The Bridgeport brand marks a range of standard CNC milling machines through to advanced 3-axis and 5-axis machining centres.

Amongst the main developments are the following machines.

* XR 600 5AX - the XR 600 5AX 5-axis, bridge-type machining centre provides optimum 'one-hit' machining for five-face and simultaneous 5-axis machining.

As well as having an ultra-rigid and thermally-stable structure, the XR 600 5AX has a wide working envelope, 60 tool, or optionally 120-tool, automatic tool changer (ATC ), high-efficiency swarf management system and the powerful and proven Heidenhain iTNC 530 CNC This CNC now includes collision detection software as standard.

* XR700APC - making its first European appearance, the XR700APC milling machine has the following features: a 25kW 12,000 rev/min 40 face and taper spindle; 40m/min rapids on all axes; automatic twin pallet change capability (250kg load capacity on each pallet); 32-position ATC; Heidenhain iTNC 530 CNC and Renishaw tool and workpiece measurement probes.

The XR700APC is a high-performance machine that delivers power, speed and manufacturing flexibility to precision part manufacturers.

* GX 1300 - the GX1300 is intended for the precision machining of large and heavy parts and components.

The machine will feature the new, latest generation of Heidenhain CNCs - the iTNC 620 - and will be the only machine at EMO where this control can be seen in live demonstration mode.

Hardinge will also show high-performance twin-pallet vertical machining centres (VMCs) the GX 480 DT APC; a new XR1000 VMC with a new direct drive 4th axis rotary table and a standard milling machine (XV 710).

** Hardinge Turning Technology the company will show 'high-end', 'mid-range' and 'entry-level' turning centres on its Turning Stand.

* RS 51 MY SP - Super Precision turning centre is a high-productivity advanced machine designed for 'hard-turning' and 'hard-milling' complex hardened parts to grinding machine accuracy in a single operation.

The machine delivers high precision (5 micron accuracy), excellent surface finish (0.2 micron Ra) and superior part roundness (0.5 micron).

The machine exhibited at EMO will demonstrate the RS 51's productivity potential by featuring the following.

* Y-axis option for thread milling and complex off-centre milling and drilling.

* C-axis (positioning increments 0.001 deg) for unlimited machining operations.

* Live tooling for cross or end-milling/drilling operations.

* Hydraulic tailstock (610mm part length).

* GS 200 MSY/ GS 200 M/ GS 250 ML turning centres - Hardinge's GS range of turning centres are the latest generation of the popular and successful Talent machines.

The GS-series machines have a rigid one-piece cast iron base, heavy-duty linear guideways and ballscrews, three-jaw chucks, 12-station universal VDI top plate, through tool and headwall coolant and chip conveyor interface.

The three different GS machines exhibited at EMO are as follows.

1 - GS 200 M with live tooling and C-axis.

2 - GS 250 ML long bed machine with live tooling and C-axis; also features tailstock and hydraulic steady.

3 - GS 200 MSY with live tooling, C-axis, Y-axis and sub-spindle.

Making first appearance at the EMO will be the SV 150 'standard entry' 2-axis turning centre.

The SV range of machines provides high quality and high performance at a competitive price.

The machine delivers 0.01mm positioning accuracy and 0.005mm repeatable accuracy on X- and Z-axis.

The machine on show will feature a 6,000 rev/min spindle, 30m/min rapid feeds, and a hydraulically driven 12-station turret with 0.35s tool change, linear guideways and the Siemens 802D SL CNC.

** grinding technology - the Bridgeport FGC2 Flexible grinding centre is a fast, accurate, versatile and reliable machine that has revolutionised the manufacture of high-precision turbine blades and vanes.

The updated FGC2 machine on show features a high-pressure coolant delivery system incorporating programmable twin nozzle technology.

Twin nozzles increase grinding wheel life, maintain part accuracy and help reduce the cost per part.

* Kellenberger - manufacturer of universal, cylindrical grinding machines, Kellenberger will be exhibiting four machines.

The KEL-VERA 175/400 is a compact machine ideally-suited to production environments (medium/large batch series production).

Equipped with table slide the machine has 175mm centre height.

The machine does not have an upper table, so processing forces operate close to the hydrostatic guideways resulting in improved precision and productivity.

The machine on show will be presented with the GRINDplus IT control and will be automated.

The KEL-VARIA UR 175/1000 is a rigid, thermally-stable grinding machine that delivers high accuracy.

The machine has powerful X-, Y- and C-axis drives.

It will be featured with the Fanuc 310i control and will demonstrate its ID/OD and taper-grinding capabilities.

The KEL-VIVA UR 175/1000 is a universal, high-efficiency machine.

The machine, equipped with B-axis as standard, delivers high-productivity internal, external and face grinding capability achieved in a single set-up.

The machine has a C-axis on its workhead for grinding profiles and threads The KEL-VISTA UR 175/600 machine has 175mm centre height and 600mm between centres.

The machine will demonstrate its versatility - ID/OD and face-grinding - and its ease of use using KEL-EASY, menu-based programming software.

Hauser jig grinding machines and Tschudin external cylindrical grinding machines will complete Hardinge's extensive range of grinding technology.

** Workholding technology - Hardinge's extensive range of workholding products and equipment will be sshown on the company's Milling, Turning and Grinding Stands.

Equiment ranges from high-performance 4th axis rotary 'direct drive' tables and rotary indexing systems (5C and 16C) through to flexible, reliable and ultra-productive collet systems.

The collet range includes expanding collets; Swiss-type collets, quick-change collets as well as power chucks and jaws.

These poducts too will be seen in action across Hardinge's stands.

* Hardinge Machine Tools at EMO 2007, Hannover, Germany, September 17-22: Milling - Hall 27, Stand D09; Turning - Hall 27 Stand D17 and Grinding - Hall 11 Stand C26.
