Metalworking and CNC Machine Tool Show

This year's Metalworking and CNC Machine Tool Show (6 - 10 November 2007, in Shanghai) will be the biggest ever. The show was launched back in 1994, and is now set to break all records in its eighth year, with more than 500 exhibitors from all over the world to present their products in three exhibition halls. Attendance is also expected to reach an all-time high.

Not surprisingly, therefore, the Metalworking and CNC Machine Tool Show now ranks as the premier international showcase for Asia's booming metal industry. With machine tool imports valued at USD 7.24 bill. (2006 total), China has been the world's biggest importer of machine tools over the past five years, with CNC machining centers accounting for about 73.4 percent of the total, signifying a nearly 19 percent upswing in CNC sales to China. Added to this is the fact that China is now also one of the world's leading producers of machine tools. A number of international big-name manufacturers now have production facilities in the People's Republic, but Chinese companies have been catching up fast, and are now lining up to enter the global marketplace. One thing is clear: nearly all the branches of industry in China supplied by the metal industry are now enjoying rapid business growth.

This positive industry climate is reflected in the success of the Metalworking and CNC Machine Tool Show. The line-up of exhibitors at this year's show includes many of the leading names in the industry, both in China and worldwide. Companies like ANCA, Balluff, Beijing Machine Tool, Bystronic, Dalian Machine Tool, Flow, Gulin Machine Tool, Shengyang Machine Tool, Taegtec, Takisawa and Trumpf will be presenting their latest products in Shanghai. The importance attached to the show is documented by the amount of stand space booked by some of the biggest industry names. The long-established German company Trumpf has booked 300 square meters of stand space, while China's biggest manufacturer of machine tools, Shenyang Machine Tool, will have a 950 m² stand at the show. Even larger is the 1,008 m² stand booked by QiQiHa'er, another leading name in the industry. This company will also be bringing the largest single exhibit to the Metalworking and CNC Machine Tool Show, in the shape of a giant boring and turning mill that measures 24 meters in length, 17 meters in width and stands a full 12 meters high.

One display category of special interest at the show is laser technology, and the use of laser systems for cutting and welding metals. Several of the global market leaders in this sector are expected to exhibit, including Amada (Japan), Trumpf (Germany) and Bystronic (Switzerland). Also presenting new solutions in this area will be Chinese manufacturers such as Han's Laser, Chutian Industrial Laser, Unity Prima, Hua Gong Laser and Zhong Tai Laser. The decision to highlight this particular category of exhibits was well-founded, given that the Chinese market for optoelectronic products has grown by an average of 30 percent over the last five years. As for the future, experts are predicting annual growth of between 10 and 20 percent a year for this dynamic market sector.

In terms of marketing the show to potential visitors, the organizers are focusing their attention on car makers and component suppliers as the most important buyer industry for machine tools, while other target markets such as the aerospace industry, the energy industry and shipbuilding are also being actively courted. Business delegations from all these sectors have already been announced. The roll-call of names includes Tianjin Lin'gang Industrial Area, Shenyang Aircraft Corporation, Harbin Power Equipment Corporation, Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation, Baosteel, Jiangnan Shipyard and Xi'an Aircraft Industry.

Special efforts are being made this year to strengthen the role of the Metalworking and CNC Machine Tool Show as a builder of bridges between international markets. To that end the supporting program has been enlarged and expanded, with the addition of many interesting seminars, workshops, panel discussions and forums. One of the highlights will be a special presentation on "High-Speed and High-Precision Cutting Technology". Various matchmaking events will also be organized for the benefit of international machine manufacturers and their customers.
