Engineering sub-contracting company formed



Teknek and Fortec in the UK have formed a joint company to offer machining services including CNC and conventional turning, CNC and conventional milling and horizontal and vertical boring

Teknek Howwood, the sub-contracting division of Glasgow, UK-based Teknek and Blantyre, Scotland-based precision engineering company Fortec have partnered to form a joint company, Metallo. Teknek's holding company THG, will own 50% of the venture, which will be based at Fortec's Blantyre premises.

The joint company will offer a comprehensive range of machining services including CNC and conventional turning, CNC and conventional milling plus horizontal and vertical boring.

THG managing director, Stephen Mitchell, said: 'Teknek Howwood has long been regarded as one of Scotland's leading sub-contract manufacturing organisations.

Having worked with Fortec we realised that together we could be a formidable force in the engineering field.

We are therefore delighted that Fortec and Teknek Howwood have agreed to form Metallo'.

* About Fortec - Fortec was established in 1992 and moved to its present headquarters in Blantyre in 2000.

It offers precision engineering services to a wide range of customers in Europe and North America in fields ranging from defence to telecommunications.

The majority of its work is in aluminium but it can work with a variety of other materials including titanium and inconel alloys as well as 'designer' steels.

Fortec was one of the first companies in the UK to install Renishaw probing facilities on its machine tools, which aid accurate measurement of dimensions in-situ after machining.

In addition, the company has invested in the latest Haas machine tools.
