Japan's Komatsu Ltd, the world's second-largest maker of earth-moving equipment, is considering to invest approximately six million yen to build an excavator plant in China, according to sources.

As part of its expansion plan, the company has purchased a land in East China's Shandong Province to build a welding facility and foundry. Its construction work is expected to begin as early as the autumn of 2009.

When these facilities are put into operation, coupled with increased production at other plants, the output of midsize excavators in China will grow by about 90% from last year end to 19,000 units by March 2010.

Komatsu Ltd. is principally engaged in the manufacturing, development, marketing and sale of a range of industrial-use products and services. As of Mar. 25, 2008, the company became the parent company of Tokyo-based Nippei Toyama Corp, one of the leading Japanese CNC machine tool manufacturing companies.
