Metrology company gains technology awards
During the recent MACH 2008 exhibition, Renishaw gained two awards for product excellence at Metalworking Production magaine's MWP Awards Dinner held in Birmingham, UK.
At the MWP Awards Dinner held in Birmingham, UK, on April 22 during the UK's MACH 2008 machine tool exhibition, metrology equipment, probes and encoder manufacturer, Renishaw gained two awards for product excellence The awards were achieved against strong competition, said the company, with entry open to any worldwide manufacturer with a UK representative
Winners were selected by a panel of eleven independent judges allied to manufacturing industry.
* Tooling - in the category of 'Best tooling product, equipment or system', sponsored by Yamazaki Mazak UK, Renishaw's TRS2 tool recognition system was judged outright winner.
* Quality control - in the category 'Best quality control product or system', sponsored by Hardinge Machine tools, the REVO 5-axis measuring system got the top award against entries from other metrology companies, including Hexagon Metrology and Faro.
Laser-based broken tool detection - the TRS2 laser-based system for CNC machine tools detects broken tools during automated machining operations.
MWP Awards judges described the TRS2 as a 'A boon to unmanned operation; crammed with technology to provide accurate and consistent operation under hostile conditions'.
The judging panel also said that the REVO measuring system brought remarkable time reductions for component inspection on co-ordinate measuring machines, and described by them as an 'Absolutely brilliant idea, which speeds the measurement of complex component shapes'.
Renishaw company spokesperson, Chris Pockett, said: "To receive these awards for product excellence was an outstanding achievement, especially as we faced entries from many other world class suppliers to manufacturing industry.
There is tremendous pride amongst the many employees who have contributed to the development and marketing of these winning products".
* Tool coating - Renishaw also sponsored the 'Best Research and Development Project', which was won by Austrian company LMT Boehlerit, for its new Nanolock tool coating product.
Renishaw's chairman and chief executive, Sir David McMurtry, presented the award.
Renishaw told manufacturingtalk that Sir David had received an especially warm welcome on stage from the 800-strong audience during the event.
The MWP Awards are supported by the UK's Manufacturing Technologies Association (MTA).
Entries are judged by a panel comprising editors from leading manufacturing publications, academics who work closely with manufacturing industry, and senior engineering executives from industry, who have responsibility for the selection and specification of manufacturing technologies.
