Applitec has united with other specialist tooling manufacturers Bimu, Dieterle and Utilis, to provide an extensive range of MODU-Line insert holders - the new standard in quick change, pre-settable tooling now available from Floyd Automatic Tooling At the end of 2004, Applitec launched 'MODU-Line', a new modular tool system designed for automatic bar The unique Applitec 'groove' location has attracted keen interest from machine tool manufacturers. In order to ensure the system's long term success and to meet the exacting needs of the customer, the line has been developed and expanded to incorporate a wider choice of tools and insert holders designed to meet the requirements of the numerous machines on the market. The development of this system towards a common standard shared by several machine tool and tooling manufacturers has met these expectations perfectly. The enhanced MODU-Line system delivers a reduction in machine downtime and optimises the capabilities of the machine tool. The simple, but clever groove concept delivers rapid and efficient tool changeovers with ability to preset and adjust tool lengths. This exceptional new system can also provide the end user with a higher number of tools on certain machines. These tools have precision grooves along the length to give a positive location and enhanced rigidity without the need of the traditional screw or wedge clamp, thus allowing more room for additional holders. The end result is improved surface finish, tool life and product quality. The MODU-Line insert holder is held in place by two screws going through the body of the tool. The holders are available in either a fixed length or adjustable versions. Location is assured by small sprung loaded ball. The two fixing screws are part of the insert holder to guarantee they do not get lost - a common problem in the machine shop. This makes handling the tool considerably easier. High pressure coolant delivery is a feature of this system via stainless steel adjustable nozzles for improved swarf control and reduced insert wear. The MODU-Line range is available for a wide variety of sliding head automatic lathes.
