Floor-type HMC has X-axis travel of 6m

For machining medium sized components, Asquith Butler has introduced its PowerCentre - S , floor-type horizontal machining centre with standard X-axis travel of 6m. Brighouse, UK-based Asquith Butler has launched a large capacity floor- type horizontal machining centre (HMC) The PowerCentre - S, has been designed to meet a demand for a rigid, high performance, medium-high capacity The PowerCentre - S is the first HMC to be developed by the re-formed company, which was bought and revitalised by Paul Hinchliffe in combination with the Kingsbury Jig and Tool Group nearly five years ago. The PowerCentre - S is a mid-range machine, positioned between the large capacity PowerCentre 500 and the smaller standard PowerCentre, and takes advantage of the latest proven technology, said the company. The PowerCentre S is based on the strong and robust structure of the PowerCentre 500, giving the capability for heavy stock removal and high feed and speed rates. It has a smaller capacity than the 500 but a larger bed than the standard PowerCentre to suit ideally companies manufacturing medium size components. The PowerCentre - S' X-axis is 6m, Y-axis is 2.5m, and Z-axis is 1.25m. The X-axis has a 6m ballscrew drive as standard but is also offered with twin synchronised gear box drive. The PowerCentre - S accepts heads and rams from the standard and 500 machines to provide maximum versatility. * Eleven orders already pending - with the design barely off the drawing board and the first machine in- build now, Asquith Butler already has 11 orders pending for the new PowerCentre - 'S'. The first machine will be completed in time for the official launch at the IMTEX exhibition in Bangalore, India, in January 2009. Hinchliffe said: "We have been steadily - some would say dramatically - reclaiming the market for Asquith Butler machines. Once a premier manufacturer of large capacity machining centres worldwide, we are comfortably on target to regain that position. It has become clear talking to customers and evaluating their actual requirements that there is a strong demand for a sturdy machine larger than our standard PowerCentre but with less complexity than the substantial PowerCentre 500". He continued: "Our design team, based at our manufacturing plant in Brighouse (West Yorkshire), used the best of both designs to create a new, modular machine which has the required capacity, the necessary rigidity, and is competitively priced". Hinchliffe added: "Launching a new machine is significant next-step for us. We have purpose build manufacturing premises in Brighouse and Pune (India), which we are already extending, we have re-established our market base, we have initiated a joint-manufacturing venture with India-based Sharpline Automation Private and now we are launching a new machine. It makes sense to launch the PowerCentre S in Bangalore because we anticipate that, initially at least, the majority of orders will come from the booming Indian and Middle Eastern market. From that strong base we will extend sales throughout the world as future expansion plans allow.". http://www.manufacturingtalk.com/news/agj/agj104.html |
