Contestant programs Fanuc CNC for the first time
Two Swedish students came first in the Scandinavian round of the WorldSkills CNC Turning Competition with only time for a day's learning and practice with Fanuc's Manual Guide i.
Scania Gymnasium student Tobias Gustafsson and Max Freiman, representing Sweden, came first in the Scandinavian round of the WorldSkills CNC Turning Competition at the recent Verktygsmaskiner 2008 in Gothenburg Working for the first time with a Fanuc CNC, and with only time for a day's learning and practice with Fanuc's Manual Guide i, Gustafsson and Freiman nevertheless programmed and turned the required part to the highest accuracy Gustafsson explained: "We were pitched against Norway and Finland.
Each pair had to program and produce identical parts on identical EMCO Turn E45s".
"The rival teams had CNCs from other manufacturers, ironically CNCs on which I was trained".
He continued: "However, I found that I could very quickly transfer my skills to the Fanuc CNC running Manual Guide i.
When the judges did their work, our finished part was found to have the most accurate dimensions and thus we won First Prize".
Tord Kaeck, general manager and sales manager, Fanuc GE CNC Nordic, added: "Manual Guide i was designed to be a very intuitive workshop programming software, and operators find Fanuc CNCs very user-friendly.
Tobias, a student at Scania Gymnasium and now a full-time Scania employee, proved the ease with which users can transfer to Fanuc technology".
He added: "He also won the Swedish milling competition so he will now go forward to WorldSkills Calgary 2009 in September next year to face challenges from competitors from all round the world.
WorldSkills is the pinnacle of excellence in skilled trades and technologies training.
We wish him every success".
