MAXITEC is supplying an automated bending cell for metalworking applications which uses a digital I/O to synchronise its operations with controller units.

The FINN-POWER EB bending cell can be connected to computer numerical control (CNC) systems and programmable logic controllers (PLCs). The company says this enables it to perform many times faster than a standard press brake.

According to the distributor, the unit can also avoid scratches and blemishes on sensitive sheets of metal.

The cell uses two frames to bend the sheets. The main frame is stationary, while a C-frame is hydraulically actuated, swinging upwards or downwards.

An upper tool with a CNC-controlled vertical movement combines with a fixed lower tool to hold the metal in position. The upper tool determines bend length, while upper and lower blades transfer the bending force onto the sheet.

A fast suction cup robot loads the metal and a manipulator moves it into position. The manipulator rotates the sheet during the process and finally unloads the finished piece onto a conveyor.
