A heavy-duty system for drilling large mold blocks weighing as much as 100,000 lbs has been introduced by TechniDrill Systems, Inc. The new 200HD4A system is designed to drill ejector pin holes, thermal pin holes, hydraulic lines, and manifolds.

It is said to offer such benefits as reduced drilling times, quick machine setup, and fast CNC programming. According to the manufacturer, the system's full CNC provides easily programmable control of drilling depth, speed, and "x" and "y" axes. Moreover, the system reportedly offers total machine diagnostics.

The 200HD4A system is said to have a drilling capacity ranging from 3/16 inch to 2 inches in diameter and up to 84 inches in length. Its 84 x 84 inch worktable offers a fourth axis, with 24-inch "w" travel; this feature, says TechniDrill Systems, permits the headstock to extend 24 inches over the worktable, allowing convenient entry into cavities and shoulders in the moldblock. The new system is also equipped with an auxiliary machining head that is said to permit the operator to perform face milling, tapping, and counterboring without moving heavy moldblocks.
