Water jet cutter avoids secondary machining
Build quality, accuracy and reliability are key features of a waterjet cutting machine that can cut highly detailed shapes and often eliminates the need for secondary machining.
Kerf Developments (Kerf) has supplied Springfield Stainless (Springfield), Batley, UK, with a HydroKerf waterjet cutting machine Kerf has also agreed an on-going schedule of preventative maintenance with Springfield Stainless Build quality, accuracy and reliability are key features of the HydroKerf, which can cut a wide range of materials from stainless steel to rubber and ceramics.
The machine can cut cleanly through materials of up to 6in thick and will cut highly detailed shapes, often eliminating secondary machining, said Kerf.
After acquiring two high-definition plasma-arc cutting machines from Kerf, Springfield managing director, Mark Broadbent, contacted the company again when he needed a new waterjet machine.
He said: "Initially, Kerf supplied us with a single high-definition plasma-arc machine, but before long, we realised that due to increased demand, we would need another.
We had been delighted with the quality and service provided by the Kerf team, so it was a simple enough decision to go with them for our second machine".
Broadbent continued: "Thanks to Kerf's constant commitment to service and ensuring that we are looked after properly, we have had a great relationship with them ever since and it was a similarly easy decision to see if they could help us when we needed a new waterjet machine".
Kerf managing director, Dan Taylor, said: "Like many suppliers, we are in the business of providing our customers with quality equipment.
However, we realise that the difference lies in the service we provide and in the standards we set when looking after their ongoing requirements".
He added: "We understand that downtime costs money, and therefore we pride ourselves on offering tailored ongoing maintenance packages and on ensuring that our engineers are on-site quickly whenever there is a serious problem that can't be fixed internally." Broadbent continued: "The HydroKerf is a superior quality product and is already serving us well.
We operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, which means that all of our machines are in near constant use.
With that kind of output, we have to be sure of continuity of production for our customers".
Broadbent noted that whilst nobody can ensure that high technology equipment will never go wrong, since switching Springfield's maintenance and servicing to Kerf, it experienced a significant drop in the frequency of breakdowns.
Broadbent said: "Whenever they do occur, a Kerf engineer is on-site within hours and that kind of dedication and service is invaluable to us".
Taylor concluded: "We are delighted that after installing two high definition plasma cutting machines, we were chosen again when Springfield needed a new waterjet.
We regard that as a sign that we're doing the right things and our aim now is to maintain our high levels of service as Mark and his team continue to grow their business.".
