GNB Voc-Tech students design sign for military museum
Visitors to the military museum in New Bedford’s South End will be greeted by a new sign designed and created by students from Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School.
The students, all seniors majoring in Carpentry at GNB Voc-Tech, presented the sign to a museum official in mid December.
The sign – showing two crossed cannons, an artillery shell, and a silhouette of the fort – will be placed on the outside of the “Fort Taber-Fort Rodman Historical Association, Inc.” building.
The black and white 37” x 37” sign was designed on an exterior material called Azek. It was drawn on Alpha-Cam software and cut on the Carpentry department’s CNC machine, under the direction of Carpentry teacher Donald Desrosiers.
According to Mr. Desrosiers, this is the third project that his department has completed for the non-profit military museum. Earlier, students built a table and a podium.
Carpentry students handed the sign to Donald Moss of the Historical Association on December 11.
Mr. Desrosiers said about a dozen students, all seniors, helped out on the project in some way.
Voc-Tech students regularly assist local communities and non-profit agencies on a wide range of projects.
