Brownhills toolmaker invests in UK's largest Hartford machine
A Brownhills toolmaker has gone from strength to strength after a £400,000 investment in equipment.
Lodent Precision is establishing itself as a leading toolmaking and sub contract engineering company after the installation of a Vertical Machining Centre in November.
The machine – the largest Hartford machine in the UK with a machining area of 4m x 2.1m x 1.2m and a weight of 34 tonnes, is equipped with a five-axis capability and 60-station tool change.
Paul Riley, a director at Lodent, said: “As company we are growing quickly and striving to be the best in all areas, all of our CNC milling machines are equipped with glass scales to provide ultra accurate feedback and although it is an expensive option it allows us to provide repeatable accuracies and improved surface finishes, the final part of the machine installation was laser calibration, the accuracy measured on the machine was within microns.
"We can now offer the most accurate milling, drilling and boring facility to all of our customers. Lodent has invested heavily over five years, at a time when most of the UK tool making industry has contracted with new equipment in machining, CAM, digitizing, CMM and wire erosion. stands us in good stead and allows us to remain competitive globally.
"The capacity of the new machine combined with our experience of 3D machining is already generating huge interest from various industries such as automotive tool making, aerospace, petrochemical and nuclear. This year will be another big year for Lodent.”
