Kirkham Engineering continues move to CNC
Recent investments at Skelmersdale-based Kirkham Engineering include three CNC fixed head machines; an Okuma LR10W 4 Axis machine with sub-spindle, a Tsugami NU4B and an Ikegai AT25U that took Kirkham's machining capacity up to 65mm diameter.
Established in 1955, the company has established its reputation as a specialist in the production of repetition turned parts up to 65mm diameter on CNC fixed and sliding head machines.
In the past few years the company has invested to move away from cam auto-type machines into CNC manufacture and today focuses on high quality, high integrity components, predominantly in the petro-chemical sector, often in exotic and hard to machine alloys.
Company secretaty Barry Lynam says that being able to produce these difficult and highly certificated parts is where it scores over potential competitors in China and India.
