UK manufacturing recovery will be 'piecemeal'
The manufacturing sector of the UK has taken a major hit over the last few months, though recovery is on the cards for many areas of the industry, it is believed.
Adam Buckley, head of programmes for the Manufacturing Institute, explained that while people working in the sector are right to be cautious about their future trading, there will be a number of areas which will begin to gain ground over the coming months.
He said: "The signs are that recovery will be piecemeal and not consistent across the industry.
"Some sectors, such as food and drink, low carbon and environmental technology businesses and pharmaceutical, will recover quicker than others, such as the automotive and construction related sectors."
Such businesses are well-supported by precision engineering, meaning the fortunes for those operating milling machines and CNC lathes could improve quicker than counterparts in other areas.
The Manufacturing Institute aims to transform manufacturing performance and works with over 13,000 manufacturers and 2,000 companies to be more competitive both domestically and internationally.
