DATC set to unveil Okuma partnership

A partnership between the Davis Applied Technology College and Okuma America Corporation & Hartwig, Inc., will be unveiled Tuesday, Jan. 12 at 10:30 a.m.

As previously noted in the Clipper, Okuma will provide machine tool equipment to the college’s machine tool technology program. The lab, soon to be called the Okuma Institute for Technology at DATC, will also serve as a showroom for Hartwig in the Rocky Mountain region, a school press release says.

The two firms are collaborating to provide DATC with CNC lathes, vertical machining centers, multi-tasking machines and a horizontal machining center with a Fastems flexible manufacturing system.

DATC will train students to provide manpower to operate the equipment.

Grand opening activities will take place through Jan. 14 and include a public open house Thursday, Jan. 14, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Barlow Technology Building, 650 E. 300 S., just east of the main campus buildings.
