Techni-Grind installs fourth CNC cutter-grinder
Techni-Grind has installed its fourth Walter Helitronic CNC tool and cutter-grinder, along with a Walter Helicheck Basic tool-measuring machine, to speed regrind and inspection times.
Capable of processing tools up to 320mm diameter by 300mm long (370mm for peripheral grinding), the Helitronic Vision has travels in X, Y and Z axes of 480mm, 320mm and 700mm respectively.
Rapid traverse rates are up to 50m/min, and the machine has linear and radial resolutions of 0.0001mm and 0.0001 degrees respectively.
It is used to regrind a range of HSS and carbide end mills, slot drills, form cutters, reamers and conventional flute drills, and it has increased processing speed.
The Helicheck Basic offers 3C Direct View cameras for back, front and top illumination of tools of up to 320mm diameter by 400mm long.
The back light provides magnification of 50x, front and top of 100x, and with the solid granite base-plate for temperature resistance and stability, the result is a repeatability of 1.5 microns and an absolute accuracy of +/-2.2 microns at a measuring length of 10mm (VDI/VDE 2617: E1 = 2.2 microns + L/300).
All the Walter machines operate during standard working hours plus a night shift four times a week.
