esidents and business owners west of Delta will have to wait until a traffic study is completed before the county commissioners consider raising speed limits on G Road.

A dozen people who live and work in the corridor had asked the commissioners to raise speed limits there, and on G50 Road.

Several of them complained about aggressive enforcement and speed traps.

A report on the road situation conducted by the sheriff’s department was delivered to the county commissioners on Aug. 16. The report contained recommendations, including increasing the speed limit westbound from approximately 14404 G Road from 30 mph to 40 mph.

As traffic reaches Deer Run Road, the report recommends, an existing posted 50 mph speed limit should remain in place.

In addition, it was recommended that the speed limit on G50 Road be increased from 40 to 50 mph.

The county commissioners had a resolution prepared for consideration and possible adoption on Aug. 16 making the changes. It had been discussed during a work session on Aug. 9, and the issue of a traffic study being conducted by the county engineering department was raised.

County engineer Bob Kalenak said at the work session that changing the speed limits would affect the results of the traffic study that is already under way.

Rather than acting on the resolution, the BoCC huddled with legal counsel and Kalenak in an executive session called to discuss “matters subject to negotiation.”

Following the executive session, commission chair Jan McCracken announced that they would not take up the speed limit resolution for consideration until the G Road traffic study is completed.
