To strengthen its market leading position in the production of small and highly complex components, Tornos has now launched its EvoDeco 10. The new 10-axis CNC turning centre is an evolution of the renowned Deco 10 sliding head turning centre, the most productive Swiss type lathe available.
The core characteristics of the Deco 10, such as the kinematics, 3-4 independent tool systems, attachments, tool holders and TB Deco programming made it a major success in the marketplace for over 14 years. These basic principles are maintained in the new EvoDeco 10. However, the innovative new EvoDeco takes sliding head technology to the next level with its new features.
The EvoDeco 10 has synchronous motors on the main and sub spindles with integrated cooling. This feature provides constant torque at higher speeds and optimizes cutting speeds. Additionally, the motors can accelerate from 0 to 10,000rpm in 0.5seconds, further improving cycle times for end users.
For increased productivity and operator access, the tool holders and live tooling have been reconfigured to accommodate additional tooling & attachments. These changes permit the EvoDeco 10/10, ten axis machine to house 21 tools whilst the EvoDeco 10/8, eight axis machine can hold 18 tools. With regard to the toolholder positions, Tornos has developed turning tool holders with 2 or 3 positions to increase the number of tool stations. At the main-spindle, the driven tool station can hold 3 live tools with a bore diameter up to 16mm. In addition to these innovations, the EvoDeco has now a “Y” axis at the counter-spindle to assist quick set-up of tooling and electronic offset adjustment in production.
The new enhancements that further stamp Tornos’ position in the market as the leading innovator in sliding head turning technology have been built upon additional developments that guarantee the rigidity, productivity, surface finishes and tool life that only Tornos customers can witness. These include a new tool fixation system for revolving and non revolving tools in counter operations. This improves the machining conditions when cutting at high speeds to generate better surface finishes.
Further enhancements to increase the rigidity demands of a machine that takes productivity to the next level include a new cone shaped sleeve that supports and guides the front end 3 spindle group. Tornos has also developed a new rotating guide bushing device that allows rotation speeds up to 14,000rpm with exceptional rigidity levels whilst improving thermal stability levels.
Besides concentrating on the potential productivity benefits to the end user, Tornos has paid meticulous detail to improving the ergonomics and user friendliness of this new series of machines. The new EvoDeco 10 now has improved operator access to the tooling and work envelope, a completely oil proof enclosure, LED lit machining area to improve operator visibility and a swivelling 10.4 inch colour monitor. Coupled to this TB Deco advanced software and supported by Tornos’ expanding service and applications team will deliver the complete small parts turning solution.
